Reproducing Published Material from Other Publishers
Authors must obtain permission to reproduce any published material (figures, tables, text excerpts) that is not in the public domain or for which they do not hold copyright. Permission must be requested from the copyright holder (typically the publisher, as stated in the publication imprint).
Permission is required for:
- Your own works published elsewhere where copyright was not retained.
- Substantial excerpts from another person’s work.
- Use of tables, graphs, charts, schemes, or artworks that are unaltered or only slightly modified.
- Photographs for which the author does not own the copyright.
Permission is NOT required for:
- Reconstructed tables using previously published data, provided the source is cited as “Data from…” or “Adapted from…”.
- Short quotations under fair use.
- Graphs, charts, schemes, and artworks that have been significantly redrawn and altered beyond recognition.
Obtaining Permission
To avoid delays in publication, authors should begin obtaining necessary permissions as early as possible.
If uncertain about copyright status, permissions must be requested.
INPAC Conference Proceedings cannot publish copyrighted material without appropriate permissions.
If the copyright holder does not provide specific acknowledgment wording, authors should use the following format:
“Reproduced with permission from [author], [book/journal title]; published by [publisher], [year].”
This note must appear at the end of the caption for the relevant table, figure, or scheme.
